Welcome to the website of the
Gilbert & Sullivan Society (
We are delighted to announce further dates for your diary in 2010. The Society will performing two concerts at Oldway Mansion, including two Christmas shows with the High Society band. Further details can be found on our concerts page. The Society would like to thank all those who came along to see our recent production of Iolanthe, your support is greatly appreciated and we hope you enjoyed watching the show as much as we enjoyed staging it! For those that were unable to make it to the theatre, a DVD of the show is now available. Please email us for further details. A short clip can be found below. The Society was founded in 1973, mainly as an appreciation Society.
Since then, however, it has performed all the operettas of Gilbert &
Sullivan and also hold regular concerts at various venues throughout South
Devon but mainly in the sumptuous surroundings of the Ballroom at
During its 36 year
history the Society has achieved a number of notable successes. In 1978 it
achieved world-wide renown when it sung all 13 of the published G&S
operettas in succession; a feat it repeated in 1998. The Society also had the
distinction of staging Pirates on the 100th anniversary of its first
production in the very theatre where it was first performed (alas now gone).
