Welcome to the website of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society (Torbay Branch).

We would like to thank al those who came to see this year's Christmas Concert with the Totnes Town Band, which took place at the Palace Theatre, Paignton on the 9th December 2011. The Society would like to thank all those who came along to see our 2011 production of The Yeomen of the Guard last summer, your support is greatly appreciated and we hope you enjoyed watching the show as much as we enjoyed staging it!  We can announce that preparations are already underway for our 2012 production of The Mikado. The Society was founded in 1973, mainly as an appreciation Society. Since then, however, it has performed all the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan and also hold regular concerts at various venues throughout South Devon but mainly in the sumptuous surroundings of the Ballroom at Oldway Mansion in Paignton. The main production each year up until 2002 was held in the Palace Theatre in Paignton but since 2003 has been staged at the Little Theatre.

During its 36 year history the Society has achieved a number of notable successes. In 1978 it achieved world-wide renown when it sung all 13 of the published G&S operas in succession; a feat it repeated in 1998. The Society also had the distinction of staging Pirates on the 100th anniversary of its first production in the very theatre where it was first performed (alas now gone). We also have a couple of social events each year and our Christmas Party in 2011 was a superb Barn Dance that was great fun and that got even our most reluctant dancers onto their feet!
